I think it came out beautifully as it is, so no editing, no nothing. No cropping either.

And yes, she does have the most beautiful eyes, ever.

...and while an awesome Photoshop parody video about how every woman (and men...) you see in magazines is cleverly Photoshopped, some Photoshop jobs aren't as clever. In fact, they're disgusting.
I'd love to make an album cover someday... shoot it, edit it, perhaps even do the graphics. There are quite a lot of awful ones out there. Such as these:

Selective colouring is unarguably one of the world's biggest evils. Perhaps whoever edited this photo thought he wanted the "artwork" to reflect the music- tacky, and really not very good. Or perhaps he or she has got taste issues.

This one might've been done with Microsoft Word, using Clipart. Britney is the queen of bad album covers. She should give me a ring for her next album. No, seriously, I'm sure they had a lot of budget for someone as successful as her and it pains me to think that someone got paid shitloads to create something so.. awful.

An overdose of HDR and way too much airbrushing, and the fonts are awful. If I didn't know his music I would've thought he's one of those virtual Japanese popstars (there's quite a lot of them, no?). Or maybe that's the look they were going for.

I love CocoRosie. Which is why this cover makes me so angry.

Leaving Photoshop aside for a while, let's discuss a HUGE modern day evil. The Hipstamatic app on the iPhone. It looks like it's been taken using that.. no?

Seriously, when it comes to airbrushing there is a line that shouldn't be crossed. Especially when it's 3 pretty ladies.

Let's ignore the fact that I'm really not a fan of this woman, and admit that very often her music videos are fantastic. The same cannot be said about this album cover. And no matter how much you love her there's no point arguing with me. Plus that font is the second worst thing to Comic Sans.

Eh, I guess by Photography or Graphic Design GCSE standard, this one isn't too bad. But I'm pretty sure whoever made this is classified as a "pro".

Would it be so bad if they kept the original background and they didn't add those awful tacky shiny ray things? Probably not. THEN WHY DO SO?

Let's just say this wasn't a magazine cover for a VERY obvious reason.

I can remember this time last year. I wasn't in a very good place. I was pretty much new to Brighton and I missed London very muchly. I missed my friends in London and I struggled to make friends over here. I was freshly out of a relationship and I felt incredibly lonely. I went to London, stayed up all night with one of my closest friends, and pretty much had one of the most amazing New Years Eve/Day ever. I remember my bus journey back to Brighton on the 2nd of January. I felt incredibly sad that those 2 days were over. But it obviously had to happen.
Of course I didn't spend most of the first half of the year drunk, but it's pretty much a dark blur. I slowly started developing new friendships, some closer than others. I hated my course at Uni and even thought of swapping course. Even though I had new friends, I still felt incredibly lonely. I hated myself, I wanted to go back to London.
I spent most of the summer locked in my room listening to Lykke Li, writing poetry and eating Dominos. Of course there were a few good moments, there were weekends were I went out with my friends, but most of them went back to their homes for Summer. I felt lonely, unwanted and disliked.
Then there was Brighton Pride, the day everything changed. One of my longest friends came down from Essex, I found a new place with lovely housemates and sorted out some issues I had with a very special someone. For me, Summer started on the 12th of August. After that I had an amazing week in Malta, then Bestival, and all of a sudden I realised, Summer was over. Since then things only went uphill. Not only I have made some special friends and have lovely housemates, but I am enjoying myself. I love living in Brighton, and it's scary knowing that I'm not quite sure if I am going to stay here or move back to London next year. It's all blank. I might be back in Uni to do my BA top-up, I might end up working. It's scary, but all very exciting, but I'll drink to that with some of my loved ones tonight.

Night Light

It's been raining outside, so I spent most of my day indoors, as I have for most of the past 2 weeks now. I've been trying to use the time more productively and tonight I was trying to get a film noir inspired shot. Didn't take long, but obviously my skills needs more polishing. I'm too used to shooting using really bright colours and high contrast so doesn't help broadening my horizons a little bit :-)

Taken in my room with hardly any light.

And please don't tell me to put a bloody top on. It's 19 degrees.

I was listening to The Long Blondes on my way to this shoot last Friday, and I was thinking, what if Pop Art was dark? Yes basically.

The gorgeous model is Angela Sammut, and Juanita Muscat helped with the make-up. Was lovely working with both! Also, credits for Alex Bonnici, and once again Juanita too. They're in a photo, though you can't see their faces. You know what I mean once you see the photos.

This was the second time I worked with Juliet, and I felt that the idea and the images were more interesting than the first time round... definitely more different! It was also assisted by Sarah Jones.

The shoot took place in December 2010, in Ealing, on a very cold day. The idea for the shoot was inspired by Pre-Raphaelite art. It took me a while (well, a little over 4 months which is QUITE a while) to upload the photographs online as I planned to publish the photographs elsewhere. But hey, things can't always go your way. It also took me quite a while to find the best 4 images. In fact I'm still not quite sure if these are the best 4 images from the set. There are a lot of good ones... that's usually what happens when you work with a good model, but hey!

Why People move to Malta

So I was reading Air Malta's "Sky Life" magazine, while I was on the plane, and I ended up reading this article named Why People Move to Malta. Basically, it's full of shit, and I tried to make sense out of the random bullshit written.

This is what it said:

1. Returned Maltese Migrants: There is nothing new in this. The Maltese has been emigrating since the 1950s and some trickle back when they hit their silver years. Now though, the mid to-late thirty somethings are returning as either their stint at EU Institutions is up or they feel Malta is a more ideal place for child rearing. The older ones tend to be the most patriotic.

So basically, what this means, migrants grow old, and come to retire here, to be with their families. Well, I thought that happens everywhere? And 30-somethings who want to raise their kids here. Basically, religious nutshells who want to shove Catholicism down their children's throats.

2. Online Gaming Company Executives: Malta saw a niche in the online gaming sector a few years ago (blah blah blah.... the rest of this is so boring I couldn't even read it)

In a nutshell- boring gamblers.

3. Tax-mitigators: These are people with access to bright accountants and who are seeking a more tax-efficient way to protecting their earnings.

In a nutshell- greedy fucks who base their lives on money and nothing else.

4. Heritage Lovers: What you get in Malta is world-class heritage from pre-history to the memorabilia of British colonial rule. You do come across a few museum and arty luvvie types that fell for what they saw and stayed.

What? I think what they mean is, tourists who come for 2 weeks and keep coming back on holiday. Not quite moving to Malta, if you ask me.

5. Divers: They live to dive so the move is for pure quality of diving life.

Divers who are too poor to move to Maldives, basically.

6. Consultants to government: Not as significant in numbers as the days when Malta was preparing to join the EU, but you still meet a fair few log-term expats people who are working on making the public sector and various gov agencies more efficient.

In a nutshell- boring people.

7. Senior telephone executives: Now the three main telecoms companies are all in foreign hands, senior people have moved in.

Refer to number 6.

8. Bankers: They move here for the same reasons as the telecoms expats. One Maltese bank lingers on though.

In a nutshell- boring assholes.

9. Hotel and Catering staff: The five star hotels ship them in to run the show in the peak season. They are usually found on the pool decks and are there to speak to customers in their native language (no shit, really?).

Basically, people who refuse to have a proper career, so they move to Malta to work as tourists' slaves.

10. Footballers: Yes, we're devoid of success in international football, but that hasn't stopped the local teams from scouting for cheap talent and often finding footballers way past their prime and who might also fit into some of the other categories here.

Most probably, these are the footballers who had a career abroad out of scoring auto-goals and getting red cards. Basically, local Maltese teams scout the unwanted foreign players that are too shit to play for their native football clubs.

11. Call Centre Operators: Young people, primarily working on 24/7 shifts in online gaming and banking.

Just like number 9, people who don't want a proper career. Why move abroad to work in a bloody call centre.

12. British and German retirees: They come for the sea and that flat in Bugibba or a farmhouse in Gozo.

Old people.

13. Love birds: Again, this is a fairly universal tribe who pack up on impulse to join their better half having married a Maltese who sold Malta as more than a holiday to them.

Pussyboy husbands, and repressed wives.

14. Quality of lifers: This group is made up of several subgroups including dreamers and people fed up of northern climates, commuting, the rat race, high house prices, and various other "modern life is rubbish" gripes.

This doesn't even make enough sense for me to make sense out of.

15. Refugees and irregular migrants: Their arrival has become one of the most divisive topics on the island, but was inevitably going to be more dominant once Malta joined the EU. Their plight and fate should be the collective responsibility of all EU countries.

People who come here by boat, not by choice. And was it really necessary for this Liz Ayling lady to write the last sentence?

Freedom Day 2005

It was Thursday 31st March 2005.

The day is memorable, as it's Jum Il-Helsien (Freedom Day) in the Maltese Islands.

He had to go to college the next day, it was his first year, and he often skipped lessons. The next day was Friday April 1st 2005.

He decided to go to Gozo with A, S and L. He had a crush on L at that time, a big big crush. S was his best friend and S was dating A. A was L's best friend. It was like a friend cobweb. It was a sunny day, just like any other day in March in Malta.

Gozo is a lovely place- almost like a miniature version of Malta. Not a lot of nightlife, but definitely a lot of beaches, and lots of beautiful sights to see.

That day passed by really quickly.

Since then the years passed by really quickly.

A, S, L and the boy spent the day sightseeing, listening to bad music in L's car.

He remembers playing Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" out loud, with the windows open. The Gozitans probably thought they were crazy.

He remembers the place they went to for a meal.

He remembers not liking the food because it had salmon, and he didn't like seafood.

He remembers getting really drunk afterwards.

Really really drunk.

They took the ferry back to Malta when it was dark. And they were drunk. He slept in the ferry.

They arrived in Malta, and while driving, L stopped the car in a dark place, where A & S requested. It was very dark, and there was grass all over the place. L's white car was the only car parked there. The boy and L left the car, while A & S were having sex. Drunken oral sex.

The boy wanted to have sex with L, but it couldn't happen. The boy was only 16. L still loved his ex. L missed his ex. L ended up crying over his ex, and the boy ended up comforting him. They were still drunk.

The boy tried to cheer L up, and he thought he did cheer him up. He hoped he did. He cheered him up enough to play funny bad music in his car again, as they were driving home afterwards.

The roads were dark, and they were in some place central, Attard or Iklin. L was driving really fast, and a Maltese late 90's Eurovision song was playing in his car stereo. It was funny.

They were all singing to the cheesy song, it was funnier.

Then all of a sudden, bang.

It just happened.

At one point, they were singing to a cheesy 90's girlband, the next thing they knew, there was a wall in front of them. It wasn't just in front of them, it was on the front window. On the bonnett. The glass was cracked, and the boy let a loud sigh out of shock, holding back his tears. L was crying, A and S stepped out of the car, and opened the front doors for L and the boy. Some locals came to help them. They brought them strong black coffee in ceramic mugs.

L stepped out of the damaged vehicle, and so did the boy. Before he closed the door, the massive yellow-ish quarry blocks smashed the front glass. Shattered glass and quarry blocks were seated where the boy and L were seated a few seconds ago.

And that was the moment- he forgot about everything that happened that day- the bright weather, the Christmas music, the crazy food and the good times. He just thought of that moment. He cried and hugged this sweet chubby lady wearing a pink jumper who came to help them.

No one was hurt, but they could've been dead.

He could have been dead.

His friends could have died.

He went to college the next day, and he wasn't himself.

All his friends were pulling April Fool's jokes, and when he told his friends what happened the night before, some did not believe him.

They didn't realise he was being serious.

But he wasn't bothered. He was shocked, but he was also alive. He felt lucky. Shocked, and lucky. Luck made him happy.

6 years already, and it feels so long ago.

It's been 6 years, but it feels like yesterday.

He's changed since then, he's changed a lot. But he is still thankful that he's got his life. He's still happy, and he's trying to enjoy every second of his life. Perhaps trying too hard to enjoy every second of his life.

I love my friends, and I'm glad I've met them. Older, old, new, newer, future ones. I miss you all, and I can't wait to see you all. I can't wait to see the people I meet nearly everyday.

This might be why I can get a bit too over enthusiastic about little things.

The boy has changed, but he is still the same.

So you think this is what's going on?

Summer 2009 was almost like a life of it's own. I had two special people in my life- AV & AB.

AV had a bit of a mental breakdown, and I haven't spoken to her since November 2009. It was a friendship based on her problems, attention seeking and selfishness. I loved the girl, and did my best to help her, but at the end of the day, I had my own personal problems to deal with, and I couldn't really father a so called best friend who hardly gave a damn about your own problems... The last time I heard from her was when she crashed at mine in November 2009 (before that we were already growing out of touch a little), she was crying and depressed because she had an argument with her boyfriend, or something like that. I remember she left in the morning, and a £20 note went missing from my room (she already owed me another £40). I deleted her off Facebook around a month later, after no contact at all. She never got back to me.

Do I still think about her? Of course. There are certain songs, places and memories that remind me of her. She was a special friend to me at some point, but at this stage, I've been out of touch with her for longer than I have actually been friends with her, so it's almost like I hardly even knew her. When I think of her, I wonder what she's up to, and hope that she's doing fine. Would I want to be friends with her again? Probably not...

AB, was, as they say, my "summer love" of 2009. I often think of him, especially during drinking games like 'I Never'. As I am completely sober, I will not go into detail... but during the 3 months we spent together, I've looked past his flaws, and my feelings grew somewhat stronger. We shared a similar music taste, a similar sense of humour, and were different enough to be a couple, but perhaps we could have been better off as friends to start with. He wanted to find a place with me in London, after nearly 3 months, and I accepted, telling him that AV (oh dear) had to move in with us too. A week after his proposition, he dropped the bomb online; that I was 'too flamboyant', 'too individualistic', 'I just want to go out all the time', and a longer list of excuses, before the even bigger bomb; that he wanted to get back with his ex (he could have just told me that in the first place...). It did hurt so bad, that I wasn't thinking straight for a couple of weeks. It led me to say things I didn't mean, did not want to go out, and above all things, it crushed my self esteem. I wondered how people could possibly be so mean, and how could someone who was so sweet and gentle for 3 months be so horrible all of a sudden? We tried going down the friendship route, but how could I possibly be friends with someone who made me feel that way? It was a learning experience for me. Last time I spoke to him, was some time in October 2009 a few weeks after we broke up- I was crying on the phone telling him that I never wanted to speak to him again, after realising that the only reason why he stayed in touch was because he wanted a ticket back or something. I still think about him from time to time. I remember sending him a Happy New Year, asking him if he wants to get back in touch, in December 2009, when I felt better about the situation, and I got no reply. I also did that in December 2010 for some reason, and I still got no reply. Why did I message him in December 2010? It's because I still care- while the feelings may be gone, I still hope he's doing fine- but same as with AV, I now wonder, who is he, really? Did I actually know who he was? Those 3 months could have been him wearing a mask. After I got over the whole thing, I swore to myself that I would never treat anyone the same way I have been treated by AB.

Which leads me to the point of this blog - I was reading someone else's blog, who is a very close friend of mine, and was a bit more than that for about a year. While the blog didn't mention my name, I knew it was aimed towards me, and it mentioned me 'probably not even caring anymore', and us 'not being as close anymore' - it made me so angry. It made me angry in a way that during a year, I poured my heart and soul to this person, and it's almost like that person forgot about everything, and doesn't even know me anymore. It made me angry in a way that this person knows I still care for people like AV & AB, who brought more negativity than positivity in my life- why would I NOT care about someone who was nothing but nice (which is a bit of an understatement) to me? It hurt me in a way that it's the memories and superficial things that he remembered, while I remember the strong trust I had towards him, that I never really had towards anyone.

People move on, and you can't keep dwelling on the past. My life has been turned upside down due to some circumstances, and this point in my life is a new experience for me, which I'm dealing with, and learning from. You can never expect things to be the same again, ever. But feelings will, obviously, and nothing will ever change that.

Perhaps this person didn't go through enough to know that, but maybe what he's going through right now is the same learning experience I've been through loads of times, most recently with AB. Little does he know that things could be worse- much, much worse.

I just never want to be like AB or AV in anyone's eyes.

I made this t-shirt right after AB broke up. It was my way of dealing with it in a more humorous way. I was meant to take the image in October 2009, but I never did. I just thought it would be funny to take the portrait now.

And by shoot, I obviously meant with a camera. Bit of word play there.

Challenging your own idea of personal beauty

Today, I had a small conversation with some photographer friends of mine, about when you take a photo of someone for a purpose, or a personal project, and they don't like it because what some people care about is a good photo to put on their Facebook page, a photo where they look pretty, all made up, ect.

Whenever I take a self portrait, I always take a photo of myself with the camera on a tripod, and display myself wearing something funny, or showing a new hair colour, for the sake of looking back a few years later and notice a change in myself, physically, and even mentally, in a way. I always spend a few minutes in front of the mirror, being the vain creature that I am. But it's been more than a couple of times, that I woke up in the morning, had a shower, put some clothes on, and went out without looking my best. So why am I so afraid of showing it in pictures?

This one isn't about putting my own sense of humour in it, or about looking "different" than I did last week (although, I kind of do...)- it's about my own insecurities and fighting my personal demons. It's about challenging my own idea of my own vanity, and challenging the way I want to be seen- it's about personal acceptance, because at the end of the day, exterior beauty isn't as important as we/I make it out to be. Sounds a bit ego-centric, but it really isn't.

I don't like my body. I don't think a lot of us do- but a lot of times we make it look good in pictures, in terms of posing, and other factors. The only time I took a self portrait showing my own body was when I made myself pose with no hands, looking up, like a Roman Goddess. Of course, it was a light hearted photo that I wanted to take of someone else, but I ended up using myself instead.

I haven't been feeling physically well this week (I'm better now, thanks for asking!), I haven't shaved in a week, and the last time I got my chest waxed was a month ago. I don't find body hair particularly attractive on me, nor facial hair. I had no problem going out unshaved this morning (mostly because I was running late... although I did do my hair!). So why do I have a problem in having my photo taken when unshaved? It's real, and it's who I am somedays.

Whilst tidying my room, I set the camera on self timer around 10 times, and wanted to take a photo of me "in action", so to speak. I used the flash on, because I wanted a snapshot feel to it. Some photos came out sharper than the others, but this one, I particularly liked, because if someone else took it, I would shout; "DELETE THAT OFF THE MEMORY CARD"!! I took my top off while the camera was on, so that I will show myself the way I don't want to be seen. I looked at the camera each time it flashed. Despite not posing, I still look like I am trying to hide something from the camera- it might have been that, or it might have been just the posture (I'm standing in some of the images- I was throwing clothes in the laundry bin... for the sake of pointless information!)

The photo is not edited, but it is cropped to add a bit of mystery to it.

Never have I talked so much about a self portrait, but I think I got my point across pretty well.

I will now shut up, and will go for a much needed shave...!

So, last Friday, before going to London, I received a phone call. The guy on the phone told me that he is calling on behalf of a studio, Sapphire Studios, for the sake of naming and shaming. The he asked me if I'm "Lara's friend", and of course, I said yes. I knew she's been interested when I asked to shoot her, and as she was in London at the time, I assumed I got a job taking photos of her in a studio, or something.

My assumptions were wrong, so wrong. He explained that Iggy & her gave them my number (and 9 other numbers), and those 10 numbers (including mine), won a free makeover and a photoshoot, for a whole day, for me and a friend. Initially, I thought I could do with a haircut and a facial, not so much with the photos (I can take my own photos of myself, thank you very much!). So I kept listening. Glasses of wine through the day, blah blah blah, I was running late, so I tried to cut him off quickly. I was like, fine, book me in for some weekend in March (you know, I wouldn't have turned up anyway- I don't even live in London!), so he did. And then the catch - I had to pay £99, as a security deposit. Now, I knew that, EVEN, if I turned up, I would have never got the deposit back. I told him, I don't have enough money in my account, and I'd talk about it with my friend, and he said he will call me later (I didn't even considering answering back when he said that, and I didn't). Of course, I talked about it with Lara and Iggy, who told me that it was a really boring day, been given cheap wine, AND had really bad photos taken of them, which they were offered to buy for £45 each photo (SAY WHAT?). They also told me that they were forced to give them 10 numbers, fair enough, I forgive them for giving them my number, they apologised anyway!

I assumed this was a scam because I have been through it myself, with a different company, in 2009. This woman stopped me in the street, and I thought, "Why not?". I thought of a former friend of mine 'AV' who was going through a really bad time at that time, and I thought, she could do with some cheering up, and it sounded like the perfect girly day for both of us! I remember, they did her makeup, we were sent downstairs, waited for 2 hours, been given glasses of Bucks Fizz (woman in the street said Champagne, I remember!), and then decided that we were bored, so we left without even having our photos taken. I booked my haircut for that evening, anyway. I did get my haircut, which is fine, but never got my "deposit money" back, and you know, £85 (That's the amount I left as a deposit, If I remember correctly...) for a haircut and 2 glasses of bucks fizz, is a little TOO much. I remember this was at Skylite Studios, in Great Marlborough Street, near Oxford Street. The place did look glamorous.

Anyway, back to 2011, the guy from Sapphire Studios kept calling all weekend, but I never answered, and I suspect it's them trying to call with a hidden number now. If I receive a call from them again, I would probably answer and tell them to eff off, but that will happen whenever it happens. I have done my research, and indeed, Sapphire Studios is a scam, as is Skylite Studios, which I went to 2 years ago. Sapphire Studios is also known as "Studio 64", and also come under a different alias, called Double Take Studios. Take a look at their websites and notice how similar they look:

I hope that Iggy & Lara will get their deposit back from Sapphire Studios, I really do...

The point of this blog is, that if you receive a call from these dodgy people, PLEASE tell them you are not interested. There are a lot of genuine photographers who are MUCH better, and cheaper, and some will even genuinely do it for free. This makeover/studios thing is not even close to being as glamorous as it sounds or looks from the outside, and no, they will not make you feel like Audrey Hepburn for a day.

These studios are not breaking any laws, but they are still cleverly scamming you, and being unethical.

I even do suspect it's one company with several branches and aliases... what's sad is they are making a lot of money out of it.

Not taking photos of course. But two weeks ago, after 42 days, as you probably noticed, I stopped the 3652011 project. I have been asked a couple of times, why?

There are a couple of reasons I can think of. Mainly, I felt like the project was losing it's purpose. Maybe I should have tried harder, maybe not. What spoiled it for me, was when I was ill in bed for 3 days, and I didn't want to take pictures of just anything. I felt that most of the photos I took during those 42 days hardly had any substance, a handful were even quite... how am I gonna put it... bad, admittedly. It was becoming a bit of a routine, and I didn't want that. As they say, it's not the quantity that counts, it's the quality. I did, however, take a few abstracts and portraits that I loved, so it's not all bad.

Anyway, I do have other projects in the pipeline for this year, that's never a bad thing, right?!

I'll blog more exciting things soon.

Mid-November I got an assignment from a magazine for the February issue which still isn't out (some might know which one I'm talking about, but I am not going to name and shame...). To cut the long story short, I was recently informed that the brief and the fashion editor has been changed, so the shoot isn't going to be published (ah well, for next time!).

The shoot is inspired by SS11 Womenswear, 1800's Romanticism art & literature, 60's pop music, and, er, being stood up on Valentine's Day. Fun! It was shot the week before the horrible heavy snow, so we were feeling incredibly cold, in fact, we had a couple of coffee & fag breaks inside next to a heater, but it was still fun...!

Sofia was great to work with, as well as Theresa who assisted, and styled her.

Most people will probably disagree with me on this but, I HATE most Men's underwear photography.

Two friends of mine posted a link of this photo shoot on Facebook, featuring four heavily airbrushed male models, with gymtoned bodies, slim legs, and sculptured faces (one had an unairbrushed spot underneath his nose, possibly so that we can distinguish him from the others, or perhaps a photographer's mistake- we'll never know). Apart from that little spot, all of them looked the same. In fact, before I read the names, I thought it was the same model, cleverly photoshopped next to himself, in one of the images. Funnily enough, I just realised it's not even an underwear ad... which makes it worse.

Even worse, there are two things I also hate, that keep popping up in my face once every two weeks or so- Calvin Klein & Emporio Armani underwear ads. I'm well aware that people want to see half naked footballer bodies all over magazines, billboards, buses, bus stops, and so on, but why exactly? I'm not exactly repulsed by it, or find it puke worthy in any way, but I do find it incredibly boring- which is worse, in my opinion. Heavily airbrushed footballer wearing a pair of briefs, possibly with a sock tucked in, and a "perfect" body... yawn... next.

I've got a poster of an Agent Provocateur ad on top of my bed. I've been asked once or twice why I have a huge poster of a bunch of half naked women feeding grapes to each other, on top of my bed. My answer is, because I love looking at it. I wish I took the photo. It's creative, beautiful, artistic, and the models are of different shapes. Why isn't men's underwear photography like that? Why is it so boring and one dimensional? I don't want to sound like a dick, but I can easily take a black & white photograph of a muscled man in briefs and possible a sock tucked inside. I'm well aware that sex sells- but sex isn't boring.

You might ask, what would I like to see then?

My answer is, diversity. Creativity. Maybe even controversy, and not the boring type of controversy for controversy's sake. If I had to shoot a men's ad campaign, I already know what I will do, and no, I won't say it, in case the opportunity ever rises up. But it definitely won't be boring.

And to the age old question that I always get whenever I say David Beckham is ugly- "but you wouldn't exactly kick him out of bed, would you?"

My answer is, not if he had nowhere else to sleep, because I'm a nice person. But no touchy touchy, unless maybe, I was paid good money, or he had a small penis, and I could sell that story to the press, and get thousands for it. But no other reason.

365/2011 Project - 1 & 2

Firstly, I wish everyone a Happy New Year. Those who follow me on facebook/twitter would know by now that I've started my 365/2011 project. Basically, a photograph everyday, representing the day I've had, something fascinating or beautiful, or perhaps even funny that I've seen, maybe a bored self portrait, whatever. 365 different images by 31st December 2011. Should be interesting.

Now, now, yesterday, it was New Years Day. Like most people, I spent most day in bed, recovering, and chilling the rest of the day. I was in London, and I only had a point and shoot camera. Point is, I took no images. I can cheat and put up a rubbish point and shoot photo, but I'd rather take a photo of a wall. So that's what I did. Basically, it's just the first day of the year. The photos will only get better. You can't get worse than a wall. Or can you?

I got back from London earlier today (2nd) and came in the mess I call a room. Eat your heart out Emin. For Day 2, I took a picture of my room. As I said, even more knackered, blah dee blah. I'm sorry I won't do it again. Once again, things can only get better- the year will be better, my room will be tidier, and the photos won't be as rubbish as these.

But it's a start.

I last took photos of Erica in February 2008- since then, I have evolved as a photographer, and she is much more confident and fabulous! We decided to take photos of her wearing different outfits, and in different locations in Valletta, the Maltese capital city.

The photographs are mainly inspired by Magnus Unnar, Bombay Bicycle Club's latest album, Karlie Kloss, the 70's, and Erica's personal style, obvs. And no, they are not meant to work as a series ;-)

Shooting For A Cause! (and looking for maltese models!)

I'm flying to Malta tomorrow, and I'm VERY, VERY excited!
"Revolution", on the 28th of August, will definitely be the highlight of my holiday- I will get to see some of the best Maltese acts live, and I will also shoot the event... I have blogged about it a few weeks ago, but this is a bit of a reminder.

It's all for free, BUT I doubt you will end up homeless if you donate a couple of Euros at the door- if anything, you will actually be helping those children and their parents who are homeless, poor and starving!

And you will also get the chance to be snapped by me while whipping out your dance moves :-)

I also have a couple of ideas for shoots, so if you're a model or a creative individual, do send me an email on rjatt88@googlemail.com , or find me on Facebook. But do bear in mind that I will only be spending 2 weeks, and apart from having a few shoots lined up, I will also be spending most of them on the beach and getting drunk, and I have a few specific looks in mind too, so please please do NOT be offended if I don't shoot you. Maybe next holiday, eh? :-)
